HIGH-PERFORMANCE AND ENERGY-EFFICIENT
CONSTRUCTION
Better Performance Starts with Better Building Decisions
Kellermeier Contracting brings high-performance construction knowledge to custom homes, major renovations and mountain properties throughout Kamloops and British Columbia’s Interior, with attention to building envelopes, airtightness, energy efficiency, comfort, durability and long-term performance.
Foreman Andrew Weir is a Certified Passive House Tradesperson, bringing specialized training in high-performance construction to the Kellermeier team.

High-performance is
about how the building works
Energy efficiency is only part of the building performance. A well-considered building also looks at how the structure manages heat, air and moisture, how comfortable the interior feels throughout the year and how the decisions made during the construction affect durability over time.
Those outcomes are influenced by many interconnected parts of the building. That is why performance goals are best discussed early, whole the plans, building systems, materials and construction approach are still being developed.

PASSIVE HOUSE EXPERTISE ON THE KELLERMEIER TEAM
Specialized knowledge applied where it matters
Foreman Andrew Weir is a Certified Passive House Tradesperson.
His training adds specialized knowledge around high-performance construction, building envelopes, airtightness and energy efficiency to Kellermeier’s existing residential construction experience.
Rather than treating energy efficiency as a single product or upgrade, Kellermeier can consider performance as part of the wider construction process.

OUR APPROACH
Performance begins before construction
01 Establish the Goals
Understand what the building needs to achieve, including comfort, energy use, durability and long-term performance.
02 Consider the Building as a Whole
Walls, windows, roof assemblies, foundations and mechanical systems work together. Early coordination helps understand how different decisions affect each other.
03 Plan the Details
High-performance construction often depends on details that will eventually be hidden behind finished surfaces.
04 Coordinate the Team
Builders, designers, engineers, consultants and trades may all influence building performance.
Clear communication is important throughout the process.
05 Build with Precision
The quality of the installation matters.
Kellermeier remains closely involved on site, paying attention to the execution of the work.
06 Think Beyond Handover
The goal is a building that continues to perform after construction is complete, with decisions made around comfort, durability and long-term use.

HIGH-PERFORMANCE CUSTOM HOMES
Start the conversation early
A custom home provides the greatest opportunity to consider building performance from the beginning.

HIGH-PERFORMANCE RENOVATIONS
Existing homes can present new opportunities
Major renovations can create opportunities to improve how an existing home performs.

MOUNTAIN HOMES + SUN PEAKS
Performance matters in more demanding conditions
Mountain properties introduce additional considerations around climate, exposure, access and long-term durability.

HIGH-PERFORMANCE QUESTIONS
Common questions about commercial construction
What is high-performance construction? High-performance construction looks at how the building works as a complete system rather than focusing only on individual products or finishes. Depending on the project, that can include attention to the building envelope, airtightness, energy efficiency, comfort, durability and construction quality.
Is high-performance construction the same as Passive House? Not necessarily. Passive House is a specific approach to high-performance building with defined principles and performance requirements. A project can also incorporate high-performance construction strategies without necessarily pursuing Passive House certification. Kellermeier’s team includes Certified Passive House Tradesperson Andrew Weir, bringing specialized Passive House training to projects where that knowledge is relevant.
What is a building envelope? The building envelope is the part of the structure that separates the conditioned interior from the exterior environment. It includes components such as walls, roofs, windows, doors and foundations. How those elements connect and perform together can influence comfort, energy use and durability.
What does airtightness mean in construction? Airtightness refers to controlling unintended air leakage through the building envelope. Careful detailing and construction can help reduce uncontrolled air movement, which can support comfort and energy efficiency.
When should high-performance goals be discussed? As early as possible. Performance decisions can affect design, construction details, building systems and coordination between different members of the project team. Discussing priorities early creates more opportunity to consider them as part of the overall project.
Can high-performance construction be incorporated into a renovation? Depending on the project, yes. Major renovation work can sometimes create opportunities to improve elements of the existing building envelope or other systems that influence performance. The opportunities will depend on the existing building and the scope of the renovation.
Does Kellermeier build certified Passive Houses? Kellermeier has Certified Passive House Tradesperson expertise on its team through Foreman Andrew Weir. Whether a particular project pursues Passive House certification would need to be established as part of that project’s specific goals, design and consultant requirements.
Why does high-performance construction matter in Interior B.C.? Interior B.C. buildings experience significant seasonal changes and varied site conditions. Considering comfort, energy use, durability and the building envelope as part of the construction process can help create homes that are better prepared for the conditions in which they will operate.
